Careers in 9-1-1
Telecommunicators – The FIRST, First Responders
There are nearly 40 fully equipped 9-1-1 call centers within the GHC 9-1-1 service area with nearly 1,200 call takers (also called telecommunicators) answering emergency calls. GHC 9-1-1 does not hire 9-1-1 telecommunicators but works closely with each 9-1-1 call center to train them on the use of the 9-1-1 equipment. Generally, the primary 9-1-1 call centers are located at a police department, with the exception of a few including Houston Emergency Center and Harris County 9-1-1 Call Center.
