Telecommunicators – The FIRST, First Responders

There are nearly 40 fully equipped 9-1-1 call centers within the GHC 9-1-1 service area with nearly 1,200 telecommunicators answering emergency calls. GHC 9-1-1 does not hire 9-1-1 telecommunicators but works closely with each 9-1-1 call center to train them on the use of the 9-1-1 equipment. Generally, the primary 9-1-1 call centers are located at a police department, with the exception of a few including Houston Emergency Center and Harris County 9-1-1 Call Center.

  • Minimum Requirements and Some Preferences

    • Generally, most agencies require high school diploma from a U.S. accredited school or GED

    Preferences from some Call Centers

    • Previous experience in customer service or a call center

    • Bilingual

    • Previous 9-1-1 call talking or dispatching experience
