Info for Call Centers

February 29, 2008

Dear 9-1-1 Center Managers, Police Chiefs and Sheriffs,

Is your 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Center ready to handle the call for a missing child? Greater Harris County 9-1-1 Emergency Network (GHC 9-1-1) is pleased to offer an opportunity for you to attend a very valuable training course. A FREE seminar is scheduled in Houston for Chiefs, Sheriffs and 9-1-1 Call Center Managers.

More than any other training available, this course emphasizes the processes and procedures for handling cases of missing children and the need for such emphasis—the what and why.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Seminar is being offered two different days:

    Monday, April 7, 2008 OR Tuesday, April 8, 2008
    Time: 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M.
Location: Holiday Inn, Reliant on Kirby Drive

There is Limited Space: Maximum of two people from each call center (preferably the Chief, Sheriff and 9-1-1 Call Center Manager).

This one-day seminar gives directors and managers a self-assessment tool that will allow them to comply with the Model Policy and federal law established by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children with NENA, APCO, NAED, and AMBER Alert.

Some of the topics covered will be:
Community Self Assessment
Developing a Strategy for Missing and Exploited Children
Media Issues and Use
Missing Children: Nature of the Problem
Planning a Strategy
Policies and Practices for Chiefs of Police, Sheriffs, and Communications Center Managers
Training and Resources
Victim Impact

Endorsement from Shenandoah, Texas Police Chief John Chancellor:
“For the vast majorities of police departments in this country which fall in the small to medium size category, the Seminar is invaluable.  The magnitude and impact of an event like a missing child on most law enforcement agencies in this country is simply overwhelming.  By attending the seminar, Law Enforcement CEO’s are made aware of the vast array of tools, training, and resources the center has to offer.  This training is a must for the Law Enforcement Executive who wants to be prepared to handle these cases in a professional manner.”

To register, complete and return the course application attached in this email to the fax number listed on the application for the NCMEC headquarters. To select the course, circle the date of your preference.

This is the first time this course is offered outside of the NCMEC headquarters in Alexandria, VA.  GHC 9-1-1 strongly recommends that you attend this valuable course, and are hopeful that this many of the call centers in the GHC territory will take advantage of this special opportunity.
