On March 7, 2015 at 3:00PM Friendswood Communications Operator (CO) Stephanie Price received a 9-1-1 call on from a wireless phone from eight year old Victoria Grabowski. Ms. Grabowski, a second grader at Westwood Elementary was calling to report that her father had accidentally cut himself on his wrist. She calmly stated what the emergency was and clearly provided her address.
CO Price instructed Victoria to get a cloth to put on the injury. Victoria listened carefully to the first aid instructions and provided help for her father until medics arrived. Friendswood Police Officer Dement happened to be very close to Victoria's house and stopped by to assist. Victoria met Officer Dement at the door, and also went out and flagged down the ambulance. During the entire time of the 9-1-1 call, Victoria remained very calm, provided first aid instructions to her father, and clearly relayed information to the Friendswood CO so she knew where they were and how her father was doing.
Officer Dement and the Ambulance crew commented on how very calm and brave Victoria was in this situation. Greater Harris County 9-1-1 Emergency Network, the Friendswood Police Department, and the City of Friendswood honor Victoria Grabowski for her exemplary actions during her lifesaving call to 9-1-1. She definitely knew what to do and how to act during this emergency situation and is an example for other children and adults about what to do in an emergency.
