9-1-1 Heros

2015 Texas NENA 9-1-1 Kid Hero
Amrit Jandu

On April 22, 2015, the Texas Chapter of the National Emergency Number Association honored Amrit as the 2015 Texas Kid Hero for her quick and calm action during a 9-1-1 call.

She was home alone when someone broke into her house. She first called her father, then called 9-1-1 to report the suspicious person in her backyard. During the call, the suspect forced entry into the house, while Amrit was locked in an upstairs bathroom armed with a knife.

During the entire call, Amrit remained calm and answered all questions, and followed all instructions given to her by the Telecommunicator and Dispatchers. When the deputies arrived on the scene, they found that someone had forced their way into the house. Upon making entry into the house to secure the residence, the suspect fled on foot from the location and the responders were able to locate Amrit who was safe and did not have any injuries.

Approximately 45 minutes later, the suspect was found and taken into custody by one of the K-9 units, and the suspect was booked into jail for burglary of a habitation, and all articles of stolen property were recovered at the scene.
