2012 Telecommunicator of the Year Honorees

On June 27, 2012, the GHC 9-1-1 Board of Managers recognized six telecommunicators who were nominated to the 2012 Texas APCO/NENA Awards Program. The Board Members were pleased to recognize each of these individuals for their contributions to emergency communications.

A video was shown during the meeting that highlighted each of the individual calls that the call takers handled. Following the video, Chairman Russell Rau said, “It gives the board members a good feel about the way they do their job and their commitment to their job.

Below is a list of each of the telecommunicators and the 9-1-1 call that they were nominated fo

  Ericka Barnes
Houston Emergency Center
  Handled a domestic abuse call where the caller was not talking, but loud yelling physical abuse was heard.
  Sharon Brown
Houston Emergency Center
  Nominated for the handling of a call involving a 5-month old baby in immediate need of medical attention.
  Andrea Goodman
Houston Emergency Center
  Handled a call involving a police officer who was reporting teenage suspects trying to start a riot on school property.
  April Hodge
Harris County Sheriff's Office
  Handled a 9-1-1 call from a 5-year old child stating she could not wake up her mother.
  Sadie Rivas
Houston Emergency Center
  Handled a call from a man reporting he wanted to die and was trying to commit suicide.
